Essential Things For An Outdoor Buffet

House by the Shore loves entertaining and we feel the 4th of July is a great occasion to celebrate with family & friends.  Many of you will be entertaining outdoors so we wanted to share some tips for your outdoor gathering.

A Buffet is a versatile way to serve a small or large crowd, it requires that guests serve themselves in a logical sequence. Each dish should have a serving utensil next to it and portions should be pre-cut for individual servings, foods that require a knife should only be served at a seated buffet. Avoid foods that run or melt to avoid a messy plate. Always serve beverages in a separate area from the food and have separate sections for alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages. If you are low on serving containers try using these for dips & sauces: hollowed out bread, eggplant, red or green bell peppers and squash, serves for an easy clean up too. Some simple garnish ideas are broccoli florets, dill, cilantro and parsley sprigs, lemon, lime and orange wedges, notched cucumber rounds and basil leaves. For Desserts we opt to do cupcakes, pies or cakes that are colorfully decorated.

DECORATIONS
Decorations set the mood for an occasion and we feel it should be reflected throughout the house too. Flowers, balloons, party favors, ribbons and flags add flair to a party. For the buffet table we like the idea of rolling the utensils in a napkin tied with a red & blue ribbon and place them in a basket towards the end of the buffet. A beautiful and festive centerpiece would be a large vase or bucket filled with flags & white flowers. Visit our pinterest boards for more ideas and recipes.

Some Of The Things We Love About Summer

Actually We Love Everything About Summer!

House By The Shore loves the longer days and shorter nights and a slow morning walk with our best friend Miss Dita.

Seeing the exotic color of tropical hibiscus blooming on the patio. The smell of tomato plants
growing in our garden as we patiently wait to pick & eat them right away.

Warm brie with fresh red grapes that burst in your mouth with a few glasses of wine on the patio with friends.

Endless hours of swimming and daydreaming… and did we mention going barefoot as much as possible?

We love the warmth of the sun’s rays on our skin making it golden brown, the long days and, we even love the Texas heat – it’s like the best scoop of ice cream you’ve ever had.

We are thankful for air conditioning to cool off after a long day outdoors a good book with a favorite throws & lots of pillows to snuggle up with in the evening.

Luxuries like all natural salt scrubs to rejuvenate the skin from the summer sun, ultra plush towel sets and sheets sets that are light and breathable.

God made a wonderful thing when He created Summer – Thank you!

What A Man Wants

To Be Honest With You House By The Shore Hasn't Quite Figured That Out Yet.

So we googled this and we found some very interesting relationship advise, a few we can share, a few we CANNOT – and Oh My about the ones we aren’t sharing! Excuse us for a moment while we go cool off.

The Huffington Post has this blog that we thought was very informative: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/neely-steinberg/what-men-want_b_1764304.html
An excerpt from the above link: “Why not ask them? Strike up a conversation with the guy next to you, offer up the question and really listen to what they have to say.”

E-Harmony has some really good suggestions as far as dating tips and what real men were looking for:  “A woman who is playful, independent, emotionally mature, and intensely attracted to...” http://www.eharmony.com/dating-advice/dating/4-things-every-man-wants-in-a-woman/#.VWyTxUZ504U

All that said House By The Shore isn’t going to venture off in relationship advise but, we would like to suggest a few ideas for What A Man Wants for a gift.

Sailor Bags & Totes made with Genuine Sailcloth would be a perfect gift for any man in your life. They are stylish enough to use every day and not just at the shore. There is no stiffening or crunchy resins that are used to finish boat sails -- so our Sailor Bags & Totes are soft, light, and a pleasure to carry. They can be personalized with a motif and/or a name. The fabrics - both the exterior sailcloth and interior linings -- are treated with water-repellent and/or waterproof coatings, so rain, splashes and spray just bead up and run off. Our bags and totes can be washed and it won’t shrink or deform like canvas bags do!

Sailing Ships and Boats that will make you feel like you are on a high seas adventure with the wind whipping the sails. These carefully handcrafted models comes fully assembled with all sails mounted and have a metal nameplate identifying the actual ship it represents. Hours of fine craftsmanship goes into the making of each ship from the high quality woods used to the hand sewn sails. We think these would make a fantastic gift for that special man in your life.

Remember: Father’s Day is June 21st
